Welcome to the Neuroscience Institute Graduate Program website. If you are interested in the structure and function of the nervous system and want to receive a doctoral degree in neuroscience, you have come to the right place. All students earn a Master's degree en route to their Ph.D. however we do not offer a Master's only degree. It is my pleasure to highlight the many strengths of our training program:
WE PROVIDE AN INTERDISCPLINARY DOCTORAL TRAINING PROGRAM: Students work with Core Neuroscience Faculty and over 40 Associate Faculty from other departments including, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Education, Mathematics, Nursing, Psychology, Philosophy, and Physics.
STUDENTS RECEIVE COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING IN NEUROSCIENCE AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
The core coursework provides students with training in the behavioral, cellular, and systems neurosciences, statistics, professional development, and academic survival skills.
THERE IS A RICH ARRAY OF LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Students can chose from over 50 electives (e.g., computational modeling, cognitive neuroscience, neurophilosophy, neuroendocrinology, neuroplasticity), obtain training in a wide range of research methodologies, and have the opportunity to teach and attend journal clubs, seminars, and distinguished speaker series.
THIS IS A FIRST-RATE PLACE TO BE FOR NEUROSCIENCE
Atlanta has thriving Neuroscience community and an active Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. In addition to the incredible amount of neuroscience research at GSU, there are opportunities for collaboration with researchers at Emory University, Georgia Tech, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Neuroscience researchers from the major Atlanta universities are brought together through the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN).
TRAINING IS PROVIDED IN NEW STATE OF THE ART FACILITIES
Including the new 350,000 square foot Petit Science Center. For a list of research resources see neuroscience.gsu.edu/research.html
WE HAVE AN EXCEPTIONAL NUMBER OF SCIENCE EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Students have the opportunity to participate in rewarding programs aimed at increasing scientific literacy and brain awareness in the community, including K-12 schools.
WE PROVIDE FULL TUITION WAIVER AND STIPEND FOR ALL STUDENTS IN GOOD STANDING. Students may be eligible to receive funding from the Brains and Behavior Graduate Fellow Program.
I encourage you to visit our website to learn more about our outstanding neuroscience program. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or require additional information.
