Neuroscience Faculty Benoit Chassaing Wins Innovator Award

Congratulations to Benoit Chassaing, Ph.D., a new Assistant Professor in the Neuroscience Institute, who has been named a 2017 recipient of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation Innovator Award. Chassaing will receive a $100,000 grant to support his 1-year project. The Innovator Awards are designed to “challenge investigators to push boundaries to advance (the) goal of predicting and preventing Inflammatory Bowel Disease.” Chassaing’s lab studies the intestinal microbiota (the collection of microorganisms that inhabit our gut). He is interested in how environmental factors, such as diet, alter the microbiota and in how the microbiota communicate with the brain leading to altered behavior.
