GRANT DATA STORAGE INFO
Grants will often require information about how the data generated will be stored. Neuroscience Core Faculty can utilize the below template. It is highly recommended you discuss with Ryan Sleeth [email protected] beforehand if your project is expected to generate a large amount of data (10 TB+). In such cases it may be wise to include in your grant a request for funds for data storage so that any required server expansion does not fall on the department to fund.
The __________ Lab's data is hosted on a 300 TB file server on-premises. The file server runs on Enterprise Linux and utilizes the copy-on-write ZFS advanced file system which protects both against disk failure through RAID redundancy but also against silent corruption either through bit flip or sudden unreported hard drive failure. The file server is backed up twice, once on-site and once off-site which ensures in the event of data center disaster all data would be safe. Backups are kept for at least seven years to protect against accidental deletions.
The file server is maintained by a dedicated full-time University Research UNIX expert. Permission to access the file share is managed through a centralized university Active Directory environment. Only users personally vetted by Dr. __________ are added to the appropriate security group for read/write access and once they leave the lab are removed.
