RESEARCH EQUIPMENT
Managing computers that run scientific equipment can be complex when considering mandated Cybersecurity and GSU policies. Below are the options for their setup:
Note: Having Internet access on research equipment is not recommended. Treating research equipment computers as 'appliances' that perform a singular function prolongs their lifespan; keeping them offline helps ensure that.
Note: Sometimes the approach of having a single user login is required by research vendors.
- Automatically logs in to a local, shared, user account
- Does not have Internet access
- Does not have GSU network access
- Lab File Shares are not accessible. Researchers must 'ferry' data to a different networked computer via external hard drives or flash drives to be able to upload their data
- Users log in with their individual Campus IDs
- The computer has full access to the Internet and GSU campus network
- Lab File Shares are automatically mapped when users sign in
- Users log in with their individual Campus IDs
- The computer only has access to the GSU campus network
- No Internet access
- Lab File Shares are automatically mapped when users sign in
